This deciduous bulb grows in summer and goes dormant in winter, beginning to flower in midsummer. Double Tuberose produces tall stems topped with dense clusters of creamy white flowers, accompanied by grass-like leaves. The blooms are highly fragrant, with a strong, almost overwhelming scent.
Tuberose thrives in full sun but will also bloom in partial shade. It makes an excellent cut flower for long-lasting arrangements and is easy to grow, doing well in both gardens and patio pots. Although frost will kill the above-ground parts, the tubers remain safe underground.
Offsets form readily, allowing you to easily increase your stock by breaking them off when lifting the tubers. Alternatively, separate the bulbs in spring and plant them with the pointed ends upward, covering them with about 5cm of soil and spacing them 10cm apart. They look best planted in groups of 10 to 20.
